Shonnia Spears is a licensed professional counselor available for virtual sessions. She works with teenagers and adults of all ages. Many of Shonnia’s clients come in to address life transitions, self-confidence, and identity. Shonnia is particularly passionate about serving teenagers, parents, and young adults.
Shonnia is trained in cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, motivational interviewing, in which we examine thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors, understand what is or isn't working, and shift them to healthier habits. In session, Shonnia focuses on listening and unconditional positive regard. This approach supports clients to set their own path to healing and happiness, at their own pace, while feeling heard and empowered.
Shonnia's style is encouraging, non-judgmental, and goal-oriented. When clients first start therapy, she listens to understand the complexities of their lives as an individual.
Shonnia received her M.S. and Ed.S. degrees in counseling from Mississippi State University. Soon after, she became a National Certified Counselor. She has worked with many children and parents involved with Child Protective Services and foster care. Outside of private practice, Shonnia enjoys reading, quilting, and crafting/creating with her family.
