Dr. Shy Krug is a Clinical Psychologist and AASECT-Certified Sex Therapist on the Upper West Side of Manhattan who specializes in sex therapy and sexual health in addition to sexual addiction. He also specializes in trauma, depression, anxiety, and couples counseling. In addition, he has a deep understanding of how mental illness can impact changes in arousal or sexual function. His practice is LGBTQIA-affirmative.
Dr. Krug mainly utilizes a combination of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and mindfulness. He is also trained in Gottman’s Method of Couples Counseling, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and Prolonged Exposure (PE).
In addition, to ensure that an individual’s sexual dysfunction is not being caused by a medical issue, Dr. Krug takes a team-oriented approach and works closely with a team of medical providers. When working with a client who has a history of trauma, he also discusses the challenges of trauma-focused work and lets them know that it is common to feel more distress in the beginning of treatment to ensure they are ready to start talking about their traumatic experience(s). Dr. Krug is passionate about his work and cares deeply for his clients.
