Professional statement

Sky Koltun is a therapist in New York whose approach to therapy is first and foremost holistic; merging the best of traditional and evidence-based clinical psychotherapy with philosophy and neuroscience. This includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in which clients focus on the present, as well as dynamic approaches that entail exploring elements of a client's past that has contributed to who they are today.

Sky's practice is eclectic and often includes such methods as “Tapping” or EFT; Internal Family Systems; The Sedona Method; Narrative Therapy; and Behavioral approaches.

Sky's clients are individuals and couples that seek practical tools for living that will increase their capacity to use healthy and adaptive coping skills to address major life challenges, increase insight, and improve communication.

Sky received her master’s degree from Hunter College’s Silberman School of Social Work with a focus on Mental Health and Human Sexuality. She specializes in working with couples, adults, and adolescents experiencing depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, addiction/recovery & 12 Step programs, issues related to sexuality, relationship issues, family conflict, life transitions, career confusion, and loss.

Message to clients

“People say that what we're all seeking is a meaning for life. ... I think that what we're seeking is an experience of being alive, so that our life experiences will have resonances with our own innermost being and reality, so that we actually feel the rapture of being alive.” – Joseph Campbell

Have you ever had the thought: “If only I could just stop [Fill in the blank] my life would be so much better”? Well, I want to tell you that you are right! Whether you struggle with chronic anxiety or depression, drinking, overeating, toxic relationships, negative thought patterns, low self-esteem, addictive/compulsive behaviors, or any number of self-destructive mental habits that keep you from becoming the fullest expression of your true self you already have an intuitive knowing that this is not who you really are. I am here to help people uncover, discover, and discard the mental habits that keep them feeling ‘stuck.’ I work with people using the tools of traditional psychodynamic psychotherapy; neurobiology, and behavioral approaches, which I merge with (historically) Eastern practices of meditation and mindfulness that are scientifically proven to create long term cognitive and behavioral change. It has been my experience that once we are able to put down behaviors and thought patterns that no longer serve us, we become free to find out who we truly are and live life to the fullest and fully experience the rapture of being alive.
