Professional statement

Dr. Stefanie Maxwell is a Clinical Psychologist in Lincoln Square, Chicago who has extensive experience working with clients with anxiety, a sleep disorder, a disability, medical conditions, and/or a history of trauma. She also specializes in relationships and geographic transitions, including moving to a new city, leaving for college, etc. She particularly enjoys working with individuals who have nontraditional work schedules, including those who work from home.

Dr. Maxwell primarily utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) but will also bring in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy for trauma work. She also works with clients whose anxiety are causing sleep-related issues. For these clients, she helps them make behavioral changes and teaches them a number of relaxation techniques that they can use to manage their symptoms. For clients with a history of trauma, Dr. Maxwell lets them lead the sessions and determine when they are ready to talk about it. Many of her clients have trauma that stemmed from some kind of childhood abuse, including physical or emotional. She’ll implement elements from DBT to help with emotional regulation, so they can make sure they are in a place where they will not re-traumatize themselves.

Dr. Maxwell is passionate about the work she does and believes all individuals deserve to live a life they love. She is there to help them manage their symptoms or navigate changes in order to reach a point of healing and/or acceptance. She looks forward to meeting you at her office located off of the Brown Line at Montrose.
