Dr. Stephanie Benedict is a Clinical Psychologist who specializes in working with emerging adults and early/mid career professionals who are navigating challenges related to stress, balance, and caring for themselves. She has expertise in working with graduate/medical students, health care providers, lawyers, therapists, and career professionals with common concerns related to perfectionism, stress, anxiety, self confidence, career identity, self criticism, transitions, and relationship challenges. She has an additional specialization in working with parents and those navigating family and other care taking responsibilities along with a career.

Dr. Benedict takes a collaborative, insight-oriented approach that is considerate of each individual's unique personal and cultural context. She prioritizes a genuine and trusting relationship as a foundation of her work. Dr. Benedict believes that factors outside of our immediate awareness can often contribute to feelings of distress, an internal critic, a sense of feeling "stuck,' and/or a lack of fulfillment or enjoyment. She finds it beneficial to explore conscious factors as well as underlying causes for symptoms or difficulties. As more awareness is gained regarding factors contributing to symptoms, Dr. Benedict works collaboratively to help clients manage stressors and create meaningful change.

Dr. Benedict is passionate about her work and strives to help her clients prioritize caring for themselves. Before starting her private practice, Dr. Benedict worked for many years at the University of Illinois at Chicago Counseling Center. She has a passion for supervision and training and also works as a consultant for for other mental health professionals. Dr. Benedict is a PSYPACT provider is is available to work virtually with clients located in participating PSYPACT states.

Message to clients

Life can be busy and chaotic and caring for oneself can sometimes get deprioritized. We may find ourselves managing multiple demands in ways that feel unfulfilling, overwhelming, or lacking in attention to our needs. We may recognize ways in which we want to adjust our priorities, desire less stress, desire our relationships to be different, or want to understand ourselves better and feel better. Whatever your reasons for beginning therapy, my goal is to help you prioritize your care for yourself and to aid in guidance of the process to help you implement your desired changes.

You are the expert on your life and I view my role as someone who can help you to better understand yourself, including what you need and want. My approach is collaborative, insight oriented, and focused on helping you better understand your thoughts, emotions, behaviors and stuck points. I aim to help you understand how your past experiences and current environment may contribute to expectations you have for yourself, how you communicate, and how you care for yourself. I strive to help you gain more clarity on points of stress and overwhelm, patterns in behavior, and goals and barriers to change. Together we can work to help you develop alternate and more adaptive ways to manage stressors, express your needs, connect with others, and make the changes you desire.
