Professional statement

I believe receiving counseling is the ultimate act of humility. In therapy, a person allows themselves to be vulnerable and expose their lifelong conundrums that have weighed them down for years.

I believe that counseling is an act of service and should not be taken lightly. I provide a safe space for you to release the burdens of your everyday life. In my approach to treatment I seek to find the core disturbance that resonates throughout the individuals life. I help each individual to recognize their issues and feel the emotions that have been suppressed as a result of the disturbance, then we work to heal the old wounds that have been keeping the person stuck physically, mentally, spiritually, and emotionally.

My new passion is to find people who self medicate their mental health issues with cannabis, a legal means to address their use of cannabis, especially individuals on probation. My mission is through mental health care legitimize the use of cannabis through assessing and diagnosing self-medicators and legitimizing their use by facilitating the acquisition of a medical cannabis card . This will introduce a targeted holistic means to consider addressing mental health and physical health issues with the medicinal cannabis. As a clinician it is my hope that as some people get assessed they would decide to get treatment as well.

Masters of Arts in Clinical/Community Psychology from Norfolk State University.

I'm trained in cognitive behavioral therapy, trauma therapy, anxiety management, couples therapy, and many holistic treatments to include mindfulness, meditations, yoga, affirmations, and just started the incorporation of facilitating medical cannabis cards certification into the practice.

Message to clients

My style is conversational, engaging, and non-judgmental. In the beginning of the process, I work to build a rapport with the individual where the individual feels like they are talking to someone who knows them. I always explain the therapy process explaining that there will be a time where they feel they are talking to a friend however I remind them that everything that I get from them to tell me help me to bring about an awareness of the source of a behavior. I remind my clients of the therapeutic relationship but the conversational approach is so y don't feel like are in a sterile and judgmental environment. I also explain that there will be times where they will be resistant and I let p know that it is because we have begun to touch on a core issue that has been suppressed. I tell the individual to lean into the process at that time because a breakthrough is coming. Come to Ta Mara's Promise for your break through.
