Professional statement

Tara DeWitt is a Clinical Psychologist in the West Village of Manhattan and Downtown Brooklyn  who specializes in couples therapy, existential doubts and crises, and LGBTQIA+ issues. Her practice is open to adults across the lifespan, as well as couples.

Clients often visit Dr. Dewitt when they want to connect with their life purpose. She helps them connect on a practical level to their own values system, figuring out ways they can do more of what brings them energy and satisfaction in their existing profession.

Dr. DeWitt brings a dynamic, engaged energy to her sessions – she integrates mindfulness practices, as well as positive psychology to encourage clients to identify and develop more of what makes them happy. With a strong training and background in motivational interviewing, she also works with clients to identify changes they want to make, and assist them along their organic journey.

When working with couples, Dr. DeWitt uses the principles from Emotionally-Focused Couples Therapy to help partners work through issues like communication, identifying unhelpful patterns, and navigate recurring pain points like money, work stressors, time conflicts, and parenting challenges.

Dr. DeWitt’s office is located in the West Village, close to PATH at 9th Street, as well as West 4th Street on the A/B/C/D/E/F/M lines and in Downtown Brooklyn close to the A/C/F/N/R/4/5 lines.

Message to clients

Therapy is such an effective tool to connect with your values, purpose and strengthen your relationships. Scheduling time each week in order to deepen what is most important is essential to fully developing what you want to do and who you aim to become. Through connected conversations my patients are able to quiet the noise and connect with what is most important to them.
