Taylor Brown is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor located in Denton, TX. Taylor has over seven years of experience working with those whose trauma backgrounds hold them back from feeling present, comfortable, and fulfilled in their daily lives. Many of Taylor’s clients have depression or anxiety that stems from their difficulties in processing through painful memories. Other clients resort to substance use to self medicate, in the hopes of dulling out their intense emotions. Taylor works with both adolescents and adults to overcome these mental health challenges so they can feel in control of their lives once more.
Taylor utilizes an evidence-based therapy modality called Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. This therapy modality leverages the brain’s natural processes to help integrate painful memories into the past, leaving the client more capable of managing their emotional distress related to those memories. Taylor teaches clients how to cope with difficult emotions as they process through their trauma and its roots, and also integrates elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) into each session. Clients leave therapy with a toolbox of skills to use when they become overwhelmed, and develop a greater awareness of their mind and body’s responses to heightened feelings.
Taylor earned a Master’s degree from the University of North Texas. She wholeheartedly believes in an individual's innate resilience and knows that each person she works with is capable of overcoming their challenges, including substance use. She provides kind, direct guidance as her clients work through these challenges, and will often bring humor or sarcasm into the session so clients can feel at ease.
