Professional statement

Telishia “TJ” Johnson is a Marriage and Family Therapist Associate. She offers therapy and teletherapy to couples, families, individuals, and teens ages 15 and up living in Texas. She specializes in Depression, Anxiety, phobias, life transitions, codependency, career challenges, insomnia, self-esteem, trauma, premarital counseling, family conflict and relationship challenges such as communication, infidelity, and trust issues.

As an MFT, Family Systems is one of her primary approaches to therapy which means she works with clients from a systemic perspective. She assesses each client’s presenting problems through the impact of their relationships, culture, and context. She helps clients identify their interactional patterns to clarify meaning, remedy trouble spots, and strengthen relationships.

In addition to therapy, she uses supplemental somatic approaches to support the nervous system in healing. Some examples of these auxiliary treatment approaches include meditation, mindfulness, tapping, movements based on polyvagal theory, and neurofeedback.

Clients coming to therapy in Frisco should take the elevator to the second floor and follow the signs to Suite 240. Send a text when you arrive for couples therapy or family therapy. Then have a seat in the lobby and relax! I will meet you, offer a warm beverage, and escort you to the office for your appointment.

Coming to couples therapy in Fort Worth or couples therapy in Haslet? Have a seat in lobby of Suite 700 at back of bldg. behind Froth Coffee Bar.

Message to clients

Like many other providers, I use a variety of clinically proven treatment options including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy and Gestalt Therapy while infusing activities which promote interaction and self-reflection.

One core difference in my approach is the philosophy of integration which informs my treatment recommendations. I recognize that our experiences, especially the more dramatic ones, leave residual and lasting impact on the body. Full restoration sometimes takes a combination of solutions.

My goal is to create an environment for great therapeutic experiences to occur in session, and to equip you with skills to apply outside of sessions as you continue to build momentum. I do this using a style which feels much like a partnership where we co-create your desired future outcomes.

I am drawn to this work because of the belief that we all have the internal resources to accomplish our goals. It is personally rewarding to see others grow and to be a partner on their growth journey. I am also a big advocate of acknowledging and celebrating client successes. After all, when we find something that works, we should do more of it!

In therapy, I am cheering you on. I will support you and your partner or family to figure out the unknowns, see different perspectives, and give new meaning to problematic patterns of thinking. If this sounds interesting, schedule your free consultation today, and let’s make a plan to unlock and unleash happiness and joy.

I accept the insurance listed as well as Flexible Spending Accounts and Health Savings Accounts. For all other plans I work with Mentaya, a platform that helps clients get money back on out-of-network therapy sessions. If you have out-of-network benefits, Mentaya will file claims and handle the insurance paperwork to make sure you get reimbursed. They charge a 5% fee per claim and have helped people get thousands of dollars back per year.

Note: Mentaya's goal is to save you time and money. It's completely optional, and as your therapist I do not benefit in any way from your participation.
