Professional statement

Tessa Mandala is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in the Andersonville neighborhood in Chicago, IL who specializes in substance abuse and addiction, including process addictions, anxiety, depression, trauma, and mindfulness.

Tessa is a yoga therapist who also utilizes Dialectic Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Family Systems, Holistic Therapy, and mindfulness practices. Through the use of mindfulness, breathing exercises, movement, and grounding, yoga therapy is beneficial for recovery and overall mental health. This type of practice allows for healing to emerge by increasing mind-body awareness and using internal resources to ground. When working with clients with an addiction, Tessa utilizes Motivational Interviewing in addition to mind-body techniques.

Tessa recognizes that everyone’s journey is unique, and she is there to help support clients on their path towards healing and recovery. She looks forward to meeting you.

Message to clients

I believe that therapy is a collaborative process and have found it helpful to talk freely for an hour a week about your current stressors in a safe, non-judgmental environment. One of the biggest indicators of success in therapy is the therapeutic alliance, the relationship between the therapist and client, which is why I like to connect prior to the first session to make sure your needs can be met in our work together.

Anxiety - Coping with excessive worry, nervousness, or stress; intense discomfort in social settings (social anxiety); sudden and intense feelings of panic (panic disorder)

Depression - Providing support and promoting healing of hopelessness, low motivation and energy, sadness, irritability, sleep disturbance, and loss of interest and pleasure in life

Trauma - Coping and healing after threatening or scary events, such as witnessing accidents or experiencing sexual, verbal, emotional, or physical abuse

Addiction - Coping with emotional discomfort and suffering; reducing or abstaining from unwanted behaviors such as unhealthy gambling or shopping

Mindfulness - Focusing one's awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one's feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations
