Professional statement

Dr. Todd Kray is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with a private practice in Manhattan’s Flatiron District, where he welcomes both adults and couples who are seeking to create change in their lives. Many of his clients come in when emotional pain has become overwhelming, whether the symptoms of anxiety and depression are taking a daily toll, relationships feel unbalanced and disconnected, or stress and self-criticism are impacting performance at work. Together, he supports clients to pull back the layers of present challenges in order to release painful past experiences and re-engage with their careers, their loved ones, and themselves in more meaningful ways.

Therapy sessions with Dr. Kray integrate both insight-oriented and skills-based approaches. He gently challenges clients to explore the root cause of their symptoms, gaining new awareness into their emotional and relationship patterns. At the same time, he focuses on practical strategies, with an emphasis on health psychology and stress reduction techniques, to help clients feel better in the here and now.

Having served as a psychiatric consultant at several New York City Medical Centers, Dr. Kray is uniquely skilled in working with those experiencing chronic pain, chronic illness, and other serious medical illnesses. He brings a special awareness to the healing power of the mind-body connection, and his office serves as a safe harbor to freely process pain and find relief.

Dr. Kray is committed to maintaining an inclusive practice. With a background in the arts, he is particularly sensitive to the creative process, and welcomes a wide range of creative professionals, freelancers, executives, parents, and young adults to his practice.

Message to clients

I think that people who seek and and utilize psychotherapy are willing, courageous, open to new perspectives and looking to better their lives, even if they aren't consciously thinking about any of that when they first reach out to a psychotherapist. I have seen the positive impact that psychotherapy can have on the way we feel and manage our lives, and the strength that can build as a result of seeing ourselves change and make progress.

I have nearly 20 years experience working with people who are looking to make changes in their lives, utilizing a variety of modalities at a pace that suit an individual's needs. For me, being a part of person's life and assisting with their struggles and challenges is a privilege. Related to that, I greatly enjoy working with couples to improve their communication and to help reduce the severity of emotional and behavioral difficulties in their relationships.

Although I now work solely in private practice, I also have an extensive background in treating people with chronic pain and illness in inpatient hospital settings (both psychiatric and medical) and outpatient clinics. This has allowed me to have further insight and technique into the many ways that we struggle and sometimes suffer with anxiety, depression, and other symptoms.

While my clinical training and life experience is central to the work I do as a psychologist, I also have an extensive background in the arts. Consequently, I enjoy providing supportive and solution-focused therapies to cope with creative, professional, and personal pressures for those who make (or are trying to make) a living in the creative arts.

If you would like to know more and talk about the possibility of working together, please reach out. Thank you!
