Professional statement

Dr. Tracy LaChapelle (Dr. T) is a licensed professional counselor in Connecticut with a doctorate in Educational Leadership. Dr T has over 25 years of administrative and therapeutic direct care. Dr. T provides individual and group therapy for adults specializing in trauma or stress-induced anxiety and depression, neurodiversity, gender-affirming, and trauma-related alcohol or substance abuse.

This non-judgmental therapeutic relationship empowers you to create new and healthy coping patterns when you feel stuck, overwhelmed, hopeless, or have negative self-talk. Dr. T compassionately utilizes evidenced-based practices to help you achieve measurable goals and see results that make you feel better, reduce stress, and improve relationships. Dr T provides effective modalities: Positive strength-based psychology, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), solution-focused, trauma-informed, motivational interviewing, etc.

All clients are treated with respect and dignity and as unique people who deserve individual attention to their specific needs. Therefore, therapy is not about changing you; instead, it is for you to be heard, understood, and validated. Dr. T validates your difficult or uncomfortable feelings or situations while enhancing your strengths, increasing self-confidence and emotional regulation, and achieving your life's goals and purpose.

Message to clients

Previous clients describe my therapy approach as unique and different from most; hence, if you have never been to therapy, had horrible therapy experiences, or are unsure whether anyone can be as good as your last therapist, I encourage you to contact me.

My clients gain insight into their problems, stress, or trauma while increasing their confidence, self-esteem, and self-worth. You are not alone and will walk away from this therapeutic experience with knowing yourself and what you want from life and relationships.

Feeling stuck, lost, or confused is normal, and therapy is about showing clients they have more choices that they cannot see at the time in distress, not the therapist making the choices for them- this empowers a person! A reasonable expectation of therapy would be that you are making progress within the first weeks and not waiting for months or years.
