Life is messy, and sometimes, it can feel like the universe is just not on our side. Whether it’s depression, anxiety, new transitions, stress management, or past traumas, it can feel like life gets in the way. Valerie’s job is to collaborate with you to help you uncover what is getting in your way, so you can live your authentic true self. With an anti-oppressive and trauma-informed approach to therapy, Valerie is dedicated to providing you with a safe and non-judgmental space where you can feel empowered.
Valerie is eclectic in her approach to treatment because she believes it’s crucial to not stick to one type of modality. Her mentality is that it is important to meet you, the client, where you’re at, and work with you to see what you need, given where you are in your life. Not every person responds well to one certain modality, and at the same time, Valerie finds that it’s important to stay inquisitive to provide a different and more unique perspective. Valerie’s professional background is with working with teens and young adults from diverse populations and she uses a combination of techniques from modalities such as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, stress-reduction, and Motivational Interviewing.
Valerie obtained her bachelor’s in psychology from CUNY Queens College and obtained her master’s in social work from Columbia University.
