Licensed Clinical Social Worker, LCSW Master of Social Work, MSWValerie Sydnor, MSW, LCSW, AFC is a Social Worker/Therapist based out of Oakland. She works with Adults (18+). Many of Valerie’s clients come in to address life, work, financial stress, anxiety about life transitions. Valerie is particularly passionate about serving young professionals and any individual interested in self-exploration. She also have advanced training in Motivational Interviewing, Financial Stress/Management, Anxiety, Adjustment Disorders, Depression, and Grief/Loss.
Valerie is trained in Motivational Intervieewing, Mindfulness, CBT, solution-focused techniques, in the philosophy that our thoughts, feelings, and bodies are connected. Addressing life stressors with this in mind, is vital to find one's footing and develop a sense of peace. In session, Valerie focuses on getting to know her clients, the values & belief systems that guide their lives, breathing exercises, grounding tools, reflections, mantras/affirmations, tracking emotions & reactions. This approach supports clients to experience a sense of relief and a shift in mindset, leaving themselves feeling empowered and able to manage their lives.
Valerie's style is warm, non-judgemental, compassionate, and open. When clients first start therapy, she spends time to get to understand his/her/their reason for engaging in therapy, gather some background information, and provide small tasks to start the change process.
Valerie received her MSW, LCSW from UC Berkeley and recently became a Certified Financial Counselor. She has worked at local hospital and clinic settings throughout the Bay Area. Outside of private practice, Valerie is a mother, animal lover, nature enthusiast, financial educator, and enjoys filling her passport with new adventures (when possible!). Currently, only providing tele-health.

Women's issues - Therapy tailored to common concerns among women; providing a safe and understanding space to address life challenges, stressors, and questions around identity as a woman
Financial stress - Processing through how financial stress impacts one’s life, including relationships, work life, and self-care practices; making a plan to mitigate financial stress and how to feel a sense of worth despite a tight budget
