Vicky Travis is an LMSW, Licensed Masters of Social Work who has been in practice for over 25 years in New York. She got her LMSW degree from Adelphi Universityon Long Island. Vicky continued her training at the Long Island Consultation Center and the Center for Modern a Psychoanalytic Studiesin Manhattan. More recently, Vicky trained with the Gottman Institute

Vicky uses an integrative approach to treatment including psychodynamic and some psychoanalytic principles and as well as cognitive therapy depending on the situation. Her focus is to help clients better understand themselves explore what isn’t working and help create new ways to have a life that is satisfying and gratifying..

Vicky listens carefully to what is being discussed. She tries to create an environment where exploration can occur and change happen. Life these days is very challenging and having someone who you can share your inner thoughts with, and feel safe is key.

Vicky specialty is loss and bereavement. Whether it’s a sudden loss of someone who has died in a traumatic situation like a car, accident or gun violence, the loss of a pet, the loss of a job the loss from divorce, all of the situation’s can cause depression, and anxiety. how each of these losses may vary as far as impacting the processing of the grief and moving through the pain and dealing with mourning. Each situation needs to be addressed with thoughtfulness and emotional availability providing a safe protected environment something which is fundamental in Vicky’s practice.

I provide a safe and supportive environment without judgment so that we can work together as a team. Therapy is a collaborative effort between you and me. Together, we will address your situation provide you with more effective coping strategies and seek solutions that will allow you to get to a better place. I believe therapy is a two-way interactive relationship and therefore I encourage my clients to provide me with feedback as well.

Whether you are coping with a trauma or simply want to grow as a person therapy helps you to shift your narrative and limiting beliefs about yourself and your experiences. Together we will set goals so that you can apply the tools you have learned to respond better to life’s triggers and develop healthy relationships with yourself and others.

Loss and Bereavement - Working with individuals and couples when there has been a loss of a family member, a spouse, a sibling or a family pet causes great sorrow . Readjustment after loss is challenging, and the need to re-calibrate emotionally can add to the burden of not having that person part of your life.

Attachment issues - Development of effective relational and communication skills; insight into family attachment patterns;fostering healthy family relationships.

Caregiver stress & support - Coping with anxiety, stress, fatigue, and burnout related to caring for a loved one; balancing the needs of others with one's own needs and health
