Professional statement

Dr. Wen Gu is a licensed clinical psychologist with an office in Union Square specializing in anxiety, depression, trauma, relationships, and emotion regulation. As a certified clinical trauma professional, he supports trauma survivors to lessen the influence of painful past events through emotion regulation skills and trauma narratives. Dr. Gu provides evidence-based psychotherapy as well as forensic and psychological assessments for education and immigration cases.

Dr. Gu uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and David Shapiro’s Self-Deception Model to reduce distressing feelings and thoughts and empower clients to pursue the parts of life they value most. Dr. Gu received his BA at Boston College, his MA at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, and his PhD at City University of New York Graduate Center. Message to clients

Existing in a world in which you can't be yourself is painful. My job as a therapist is to show you who you are through a collaborative review of your thoughts and actions, which allows us to assess whether how you see yourself matches how you show yourself. By better understanding yourself, you have the freedom to exercise choice and decide whether you'd like to continue being this way.

Client testimonials

Zencare client

Dr. Gu made this as easy and casual as I could ask for. I’ve been dealing with anxious feelings and was feeling anxious leading up to the call. However, Dr. Gu helped me feel calm, and not only got a general idea of me, but let me know about his practice and answered all the questions I had.

Zencare client

Wen Gu was a wonderful resource when I was at a very low point in my life. I was feeling like my life was spinning out of control, and Wen was able to help me take a step back and look more logically at my situation. Wen is extremely knowledgeable but also frames his work in an accessible way that made me feel like I could actually feel like me again.
