In todays culture of dieting and wellness it can be so easy to feel confused, overwhelmed and like your "doing it all wrong" when it comes to how we feed ourselves. The clients I work with are often struggling with chronic dieting, disordered eating and eating disorders and may struggle with these disorders in addition to medical diagnosis such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
As a Certified diabetes educator I also work with individuals who have been diagnosed with type 1, type 2, and gestational diabetes. These diagnoses often result in an expectation of food restrictions and the idea we must shrink our body to become healthier. However, we know that this often leads to more harm than good. I provide evidence based, weight neutral diabetes education and medical nutrition therapy to help clients further understand their diagnosis and also help them form behavior changes that feel good and improve health long term.

Most people that I work with struggle with everyday sources of stress including but not limited to work life, romantic relationships, family conflict or health issues. People need a safe and contained space to work on real life issues as they present themselves. I work to ensure a comfortable environment and I rely heavily on a practical solution-focused approach to therapy. It is my experience that I am a good fit for someone looking for a therapeutic partnership in a positive, goal-oriented environment to work on coping skills and self-improvement.

What are you looking for in a therapist? I believe a good therapeutic relationship is a key component of a successful therapy experience. We walk into our therapist's office with our daily stressors and our normal patterns of dealing with these stressors; and with a good therapeutic relationship, we can examine these together. Choosing a therapist you trust, with whom you can be your authentic self, and who shows that same authenticity in return, provides you with a trustworthy environment to examine your flaws and refine your strengths. I work well with clients who want to be 'called out' in a nonjudgmental and supportive way.

My approach is supportive and compassionate and I believe the foundation to successful therapy begins with establishing a trusting relationship between the therapist and the client. I work with people of all ages and I specialize in treating people with depression, anxiety, substance use disorders, and trauma and specialize in working with parents and families of adolescents and children struggling with eating disorders and transgender issues. I use CBT and DBT strategies to help individuals to make desired changes in their lives. I work with couples seeking to improve their relationships.

My clients and students value health, self-renewal and self-discovery, and believe that each of us plays an essential role in our healing. I use a meditative, gentle and brief method that: 1) Helps you discover patterns of thinking, feeling and action, 2) Makes emotions feel safe, uncovers core beliefs and images; 3) Utilizes the innate wisdom of the body; and 4) Opens new life choices. Most of my work is with individuals or couples suffering from stress, grief, depression, anxiety, panic, trauma, relationship difficulties, pain conditions, and sleeping and eating difficulties. I accept most health insurances.

The only conflict you will ever have is the one inside yourself. –M. Scott Peck.
My job is not to tell you what to do. Or even give you advice. Or presume that I know what's better for you than you do. My job is to support you emotionally and listen non-judgmentally as you find your way through life's bumps and bruises. We often think that the source of our conflict is our job, spouse, children, parents, siblings, money...take your pick. No doubt that dealing with people and situations is often stressful. But it's our own conflicting values and desires about how to handle these things that tend to make us anxious, depressed...stuck. Sometimes, simply talking about what's bothering you helps you feel better. What I do is compassionately listen and then gently point out where you sound conflicted within yourself. So, psychotherapy becomes a journey of insight that we take together to find your unique answers to these questions-- to find out what you really want.

I use various treatment approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy to influence progress. These include relaxation, acceptance, and goal setting which I believe are key factors to change. Congratulations to you for the courage to make your life better! I would like to partner with your journey to be well and Be Free.

To confidentially talk with someone who listens carefully, attunes to your feelings, and walks beside you as you navigate the ups and downs of life can be a powerful experience. When ready to ask for help, I am here to build upon your strengths and inner wisdom. Therapy can help you explore core values, increase your capacity for self-reflection, ease suffering, and create lasting change. My non-judgmental presence and ability to listen deeply are the core foundations of my work. I am trained in psychodynamic approaches, and I usually find a core component of healing seeks to examine the relationship between the past and the present. Furthermore, I often incorporate mindfulness, acceptance, and self-compassion into my work.

Therapy provides all of us an opportunity to gain understanding about ourselves and our lives, and helps us manage it all with full awareness and greater strength. It works best when the therapist is competent and when there is a good connection between client and therapist.
