Therapists Specializing in Domestic Violence in Denver

Domestic violence involves any type of physical, sexual, or emotional abuse within a relationship or family. Domestic violence can happen to anyone, and it often has a huge impact on the mental and physical health of those who experience it. People who are subjected to, under the threat of, or have witnessed domestic violence may struggle with anxiety, depression, trauma symptoms, and/or substance abuse.

If you or someone you know is at risk of harm, safety is the first priority. Having the support of a trusted therapist during the process of planning how to leave can be of great benefit. Once you are safe, therapy can help you heal from the psychological effects of domestic violence. Though people react in different ways when faced with stressful and potentially dangerous situations, many providers take a trauma-informed approach to therapy.

The therapists in Denver below can help you work through your experiences, develop coping strategies, and heal. Therapists have been vetted by the Zencare team for their expertise in domestic violence and the provision of clinically rigorous, quality care. When we’re hurting or just going through a difficult time, so often we feel alone in our experiences. Depression, anxiety and trauma can narrow our perspectives, making us feel viscerally disconnected from our loved ones and ourselves. In those moments, it can be hard to access our own sense of worth. I welcome all of my clients with unconditional acceptance, no matter what they are going through and or how they are feeling. My intention is always to provide a compassionate, welcoming, nonjudgmental space to help clients reconnect with their own inner strength. My practice is founded in the understanding that, as human beings, we are relational creatures, and healing more readily occurs when we have someone to empathize with us and witness us in our pain and growth. I further work with my clients to identify and challenge limiting beliefs, shift their perspectives, and identify practices for their daily lives to help them release anxiety, mitigate depression, and enhance their sense of well-being.

Our emotions are tied to our native language. When starting therapy, it is helpful to have someone who can understand your native language so you can express yourself. I can provide a space where you can switch between both English and Spanish if needed. It is helpful to find someone you are comfortable with that will understand you even when the Spanglish comes out.

In my practice it is most important to me to provide a safe space for you to explore who you are, and work through any internal distress or trauma hindering you from freely being yourself. As humans, we all have experienced pain, and made mistakes, and it is crucial to have a protected space for you to find healing and growth without judgement or pressure. I hope to provide support in the process of gently unpacking what have and are currently experiencing through both creative and verbal processes.

When working with children I use play therapy, this is the most effective form of counseling children, as play is their form of emotional expression. With rich imaginative minds children unfold their stories and inner workings symbolically with the toys and creative mediums available to them. This process allows them to both heal and wholeheartedly embrace themselves. Sand tray therapy is another creative means of expression in which Clients of all ages are able to process using a visual and metaphoric platform alongside traditional talk therapy methods. As I get to know each Client I use the best methods for every individual to work toward change and healing in the way that is most comfortable and effective for them.

My goal as a therapist is to help you maximize joy and fulfillment in your life. Together we can work to bring awareness to the patterns that may be keeping you stuck, to shift old ways of thinking that may no longer be serving you, and to develop actionable ways for you to overcome any barriers to living the life you envision.

I strive to create a supportive and judgement-free environment in which you can be free to be your authentic self and safely explore difficult feelings and experiences. I will also challenge you to examine patterns of thinking and communicating and try new skills outside of session. Sessions with me are typically semi-structured and involve a combination of reflection, active listening, feedback, and problem-solving.

My practice is open to adults of all backgrounds, and I use an intersectional lens, understanding the ways in which gender, race, sexuality, and class impact our lived experiences. I encourage you to reach out so we can talk about how we can best work together to help you reach your goals.

Growing up, I always knew that I was different. Intuitive, creative, sensitive and emotional, I knew that I didn't fit the mold I was given but I could not understand why. Through engaging with my own experience of gender and sexuality, I was able to figure out how all the pieces of myself fit together and enable me to live fully and authentically in my world.

As a therapist, I work with others who feel that they do not fit - those of us who have felt discomfort in ourselves, in our families, in our communities. I believe that in order to truly understand who we are and who we want to become, we must explore the experiences that we’ve had and look at the impact they have had on us. Once we understand what we have to work with, we are free to chose the best ways to move forward on the journey.

My practice uses many techniques to support folks who have had challenging life experiences. These experiences often leave people feeling stuck, acting out in ways that are hard to understand, or feeling as though they are recreating ineffective past patterns. It is possible to feel better, and I want to help.

I would be honored to walk with you through your experience of healing. I respect each persons’ individual way of healing and growing, and know that something that may work well for one client won’t be effective for another. I want to offer a safe and warm space each week where you are able to put down what you are carrying and move forward.
