Therapists Specializing in Identity Development in Seattle

Our identity can change and develop throughout life. For many of us, our ideas of who we are and what we believe constantly evolve over the years. Defining your own beliefs, lifestyle, and sense of self can be exciting, but it’s natural to experience some uncertainty or discomfort in the process too. Although identity development is most commonly associated with adolescence, challenges can arise at any time, especially during major life transitions or other times of change.

Therapy can help us better understand ourselves, feel more confident in who we are, and improve our ability to make sense of our world. A therapist might focus on clarifying values to guide your actions through acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) or develop your thoughts and core beliefs through cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). Some therapists also provide existential therapy, a philosophically-rooted approach that focuses on meaning, freedom, connection, and mortality.

As numerous therapeutic modalities can help with identity development, it can be beneficial to discuss the options with one of the therapists in Seattle below who specialize in this area. Therapists have been vetted by the Zencare team for clinically rigorous, quality care. Visit their profiles to watch an introductory video and book a free initial call to find a good fit!

Asking for help is a vulnerable first step. Ultimately, the goal of therapy is to make you feel better about yourself and your life. While the journey can be a tough one with ups and downs, the payoff is often great. It’s my honor to journey with you through the pain and the joy, maybe with a few occasional laughs.

I take pride in working with a diverse array of people in my practice and welcome individuals from any racial and ethnic backgrounds as well as all sexual and gender identities.

I ask that my clients commit to weekly 50 minute sessions. Meeting weekly helps us create a strong relationship that allows the space and safety to delve deeper into the issues bringing you into therapy, as well as the space and safety for you to create a better sense of self-understanding, resiliency and compassion.

Currently, I am only seeing clients via Telehealth. That means you and I will have sessions via a secure web platform. When state guidelines suggest it is safe to resume in-person counseling, we will discuss the possibility of transitioning to an in-office setting.

If you're unsure therapy or my approach are right for you, I'm happy to speak with you via phone for a free, 15-minute consultation to answer any questions or concerns you may have.

I think one of the most special things to offer another human is to allow them to feel seen for exactly who they are. Maybe you are struggling to know who that even is or to feel the safety to let it shine. Maybe it's been shaken due to past experiences. Ultimately, I believe that the pursuit of this authentic self brings fulfillment, and that the pursuit is often found among our struggles.

I'm interested in showing up for my clients as an authentic, equal human who is pursuing the same journey. With my therapeutic detective skills and your deeply personal experiences, we can work together to make some sense of your world and how you would like to show up in it.

I look forward to knowing you.

I believe that in therapy, we use the relationship between client and therapist to address the challenges you bring to our sessions. This involves telling your story and relating it back to the context of the therapeutic relationship. It is within these relational patterns that develop in the counseling relationship that allow you to gain a better awareness of yourself and greater insight into the nature of your challenges. Together, we process those challenges in session, through story and relationship, to provide you with the tools to prosper outside of session.

Due to the current global pandemic, my practice is completely telehealth, over video chat. I currently do not bill insurance, but can provide support around out-of-network reimbursement. It is one way I can assure the highest degree of privacy, flexibility and control of mental health records. My current rate is $150.00 for a 50 minute individual session. I am currently offering sliding scale, for active students, with limited availability.

Feel free to email or call me with any questions!

We all need to be seen, and heard, at any age. Being scared, anxious, or even depressed are sometimes part of being a person. Our fast-paced digital world can present unique challenges for our bodies and minds. I am happy to meet you wherever you are, and will approach each visit with a sense of compassionate curiosity. Just as we hunger for stories of other people to help guide us, you may wonder about your own story. Why are you here? What must you do with your life?

I work with adolescents (12+) through older, retired adults and specialize in issues of transition, anxiety, adjustment, depression, and vocation. I am not the expert in your life; you are. But sometimes we need help with perspective. Together, we will create a plan that will help you reduce the most difficult aspects of your life and help you determine how to move through them. What cannot be changed can be reviewed, understood, and ultimately, accepted.

Life has its ups and downs, and in the midst of those fluctuations, there often aren’t ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ answers. There are times when we all truly need help and support to navigate difficult challenges and choices. With the right guidance, it’s possible to process difficult feelings, become curious about the unknown, experience profound transformation and add to our life tool kit of skills and habits. In my psychotherapy practice, I specialize in working with worry, anxiety, panic, trauma (childhood and more recent events) and relationships. And sometimes people don’t need a psychotherapist but a coach to gain clarity on their goals, build a map to a brighter future and gain skills to get there. Working with me as a coach, you have the advantage of a coach who has deep psychological training. Regardless of our work together, therapy or coaching, it’s my aim to create a safe place for you to explore your life, to listen intently and truly understand your experience and perspective and provide you with real-world options that work best for you.

Finding the right therapist is like dating- it’s all about the connection! A strong therapeutic alliance fosters confidence in your therapist, which allows you to trust the process of therapy and how it can help you on your journey of self-exploration and healing. I believe in the importance of having the right fit; if I am not the one for you, I will gladly help you find someone who help you better. I want you to thrive and be the awesome person (or couple) that you are!

People enter therapy for a number of reasons; you don’t have to be “broken” or have a diagnosis to benefit from therapy. In fact, having a good therapist in your corner can be a factor in life satisfaction because you have an objective professional who is not in your life and will always be on your side to improve the things that are important to you. I hope you don’t think that your reasons for seeking therapy are small or minor; if it is important to you, then it is important to me. We are always in the process of becoming. We are on this journey together.
