Therapists Specializing in Men'S Health in Boston Area

Mental health challenges can affect anyone, regardless of gender or sex. That said, men experience higher rates of some mental health conditions and tend to be less likely to receive treatment than women. This could be because men’s mental health remains, to some extent, tied up with traditional gender expectations and roles. As a result, some men are apprehensive about speaking about their emotions, disclosing their difficulties, or seeking help. Many experience loneliness, depression, or anxiety. Seeking the opinion of a professional regarding a mental health concern is an important step towards recovery and part of an important recognization that everyone struggles at times.

Many different therapeutic modalities can be beneficial for the range of potential mental health challenges. The best-fitting therapy will depend on each individuals’ preferences, as well as the specific difficulties experienced.

Discuss the options with one of the therapists below who specializes in men’s mental health, many of whom are men themselves. Some men prefer to find a male therapist with whom they feel comfortable developing a strong and trusting therapeutic relationship. Therapists in Boston Area have been vetted by the Zencare team for clinically rigorous, quality care. I know it's not easy to make the decision to see a therapist. I don't know yet what difficult things are going on in your life right now, but there's probably more than it feels like you can manage. That's why you're here - and the last thing I would want to do is to add to that burden. As a therapist, I do my best to make you feel safe and comfortable working with me from the very first time we talk - but I also know that it may take some time for you to trust me enough to tell me everything you want me to know, or to be ready to hear any suggestions I might have for you. That's fine. We'll go at your pace, whether you're ready to dive right into your biggest challenges today, or take some time to decide whether I'm the person you trust to help you.

If you do decide to trust me, there are many different ways I might be able to help you. You may be looking for specific suggestions to help you cope with specific problems, like insomnia or anxiety attacks or conflicts with co-workers. I can probably offer some. Or you may feel the need to have someone you can share your feelings with, who won't judge you or shame you or tell you what to do. I can be that person. You may not really know what you need yet - you might just know that you're not living the life you want to live, but not really know why or what will help. I can help you sort through what your goals are, what's getting in your way, and what can help you achieve them. For some people, a few sessions of therapy is all they need to learn some new skills that help get them past a challenge. For others, therapy may be an ongoing source of valuable support for many years. But we'll take it one session at a time. The first step is reaching out and setting up an appointment. I look forward to getting to know you and finding out how I can help you.

Self-discovery and self-recovery is a journey, it takes courage. Starting from birth we enter life with curiosity about ourselves and our capabilities; about the world around us, and how we fit in. Sometimes this journey is seamless, sometimes we get bumps and bruises. Yet regardless of where we are, we can all use some help on our Insightful Direction. It is my great privilege to work with anyone who is eager to understand why they are the way they are and what we can collaboratively work on to feel whole and understood.

I work from the assumption that many of us are held back by patterns of emotion and behavior that we learned early on--patterns that have outgrown their use, and are now causing anxiety and disconnection. Psychotherapy is a uniquely safe and curious environment, where patient and therapist work together to identify, understand, and unravel these patterns.
Because each of us comes from different circumstances, with a different set of goals, the work of therapy will be unique to each patient. Some people need more structure; others more openness. Figuring this out together--and adapting it when necessary--will be part of the process.
Finding the right therapist isn’t always simple. I encourage anyone making this step to ask many questions and to trust your judgment. I look forward to talking to you.

I am a Boston-based psychotherapist who specializes in working with men, healthcare providers and millennials. I collaborate with my clients in obtaining relief and coping strategies around life issues, such as: adjustment to Fatherhood; Anger/Stress; Divorce/Relationships; Anxiety/Depression. The men I see tend to do life alone and have a hard time asking for help. I make it a little easier by providing them with safe, non-threatening male presence that helps explore some of the messy aspects of life: emotions, behaviors, and relationships.
There are very few safe places for a guy to talk honestly and openly about what he is going through. I listen really well and give tender yet firm feedback. We explore solutions together and work toward de-cluttering some of the mess.
My background as a former athlete, a member of a large extended family, a lover of spiritual questions and a father/husband help inform how I work with people.
