Therapists Specializing in Men'S Health in Rhode Island

Mental health challenges can affect anyone, regardless of gender or sex. That said, men experience higher rates of some mental health conditions and tend to be less likely to receive treatment than women. This could be because men’s mental health remains, to some extent, tied up with traditional gender expectations and roles. As a result, some men are apprehensive about speaking about their emotions, disclosing their difficulties, or seeking help. Many experience loneliness, depression, or anxiety. Seeking the opinion of a professional regarding a mental health concern is an important step towards recovery and part of an important recognization that everyone struggles at times.

Many different therapeutic modalities can be beneficial for the range of potential mental health challenges. The best-fitting therapy will depend on each individuals’ preferences, as well as the specific difficulties experienced.

Discuss the options with one of the therapists below who specializes in men’s mental health, many of whom are men themselves. Some men prefer to find a male therapist with whom they feel comfortable developing a strong and trusting therapeutic relationship. Therapists in Rhode Island have been vetted by the Zencare team for clinically rigorous, quality care. People often come to me having lost their way. You may be holding feelings of dissatisfaction and helplessness; you may be plagued with self-doubt, struggling in relationships, or even numb to feeling emotion. It may be a challenge to envision new possibilities for yourself in school, work or home. Amidst endless options of technological connection, being seen and heard for who you are is exceedingly rare.

As your psychiatrist, I am never solely a “prescriber.” This term undermines your need to be psychologically and personally understood and accepted. While medications are extremely important when appropriate, I first and foremost offer you authenticity in relationship. I strive to know and acknowledge you, to be sensitive to the feelings around you. I support and also challenge you to bring new possibilities from imagination to actuality. You can and deserve change.

I know it can be difficult at times to talk about the problems that you face. So much of the time, we're expected to project an image of ourselves as successful, happy, funny, smart, or tough. But I would encourage you to give yourself permission to not have to face your worries alone. This is a place where you can talk openly and not feel judged. Together, we can work towards identifying and changing the things that in your life that are keeping you from feeling your best.

For men: It's no secret that traditionally, men are much less likely than women to seek mental health care. Sometimes, even the idea of asking for help can conflict with strongly ingrained social norms about needing to be tough. A the same time though, so many of the issues that men face can be quite impairing to our functioning and disruptive to the relationships with the people we love the most.

My name is Dr. Mark Gindi and I am a psychiatrist trained in both psychopharmacology as well as talk therapy. My goal is to always provide patients with compassionate, evolved, evidenced-based treatment that stabilizes their acute symptoms as well as enhances their relationship with themselves. Psychiatric conditions can be complex as they emerge from the intersection of a person’s psychological history, biological endowments, and social context. By forming a therapeutic relationship based on honesty and collaboration, I’m honored and humbled by the opportunity to help someone control their condition and grow into a better understanding of themselves. When medications are used, my aim is to always medicate a person with a conservative approach that is proportional to the burden of their symptoms. As a writer, I am also quite sensitive to the potential effects of medications on people’s creativity and emotional attunement to the world around them.

It is a wonderful time to be a therapist. We have many powerful tools that help create enduring positive change and quicken that process.
As a clinical psychologist, healer, trainer, and consultant. I help people restore a wholesome relationship between their cerebral intelligence and their natural intelligence. I teach people that problems are, almost always, a path to greater vitality, freedom and enduring peace.
I help individuals, groups and organizations enjoy an ever deeper felt connection with the spiritual dimension of their lives and their communities. I teach them how to seamlessly fold transformative spiritual practices (within and beyond their particular religious tradition) into the fabric of their professional and private lives.
Central to my healing practice is a model of therapy called Internal Family Systems (IFS) and I am a certified IFS therapist. Among the other tools in my healing toolkit are Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), One Eye Brain Integration, Brainspotting, and a relational mindfulness practice that I have been developing over the past 15 years, Structured Self-Presence© (SSP).
My practice, ways of thinking and doing, are deeply informed by the perennial wisdom of the world’s wisdom traditions as well as current behavioral and brain research.
In addition to a psychologist, I am a husband and father. I play the saxophone, clarinet, a little piano and less djembe. I love sing alongs and playing music with my family and friends.

The only conflict you will ever have is the one inside yourself. –M. Scott Peck.
My job is not to tell you what to do. Or even give you advice. Or presume that I know what's better for you than you do. My job is to support you emotionally and listen non-judgmentally as you find your way through life's bumps and bruises. We often think that the source of our conflict is our job, spouse, children, parents, siblings, money...take your pick. No doubt that dealing with people and situations is often stressful. But it's our own conflicting values and desires about how to handle these things that tend to make us anxious, depressed...stuck. Sometimes, simply talking about what's bothering you helps you feel better. What I do is compassionately listen and then gently point out where you sound conflicted within yourself. So, psychotherapy becomes a journey of insight that we take together to find your unique answers to these questions-- to find out what you really want.
