Dr. Heather Martarella helps people reclaim their lives and find relief from chronic pain and insomnia/sleep issues. She also provides treatment for those who are coping with chronic illness. She had already been working as a clinical psychologist for years when she became passionate about specializing in treatment chronic pain after experiencing her own physical injury in 2012, which left her with chronic pain. Years after her injury, she was able to begin recover and now manages occasional pain flare ups quickly and well. She is committed to helping others find relief and get their lives back, too. Physical health issues often lead to anxiety, depression, and reduced quality of life. Life as you knew it may have stopped, but there is hope, and Dr. Martarella can help you find it again.
During the initial intake appointment, after learning about your goals for treatment and your current situation, Dr. Martarella will develop and explain the recommended treatment plan. For those suffering from sleep difficulties, she provides Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I). For those with trauma history, whether from childhood, medical or other traumas, she may provide Trauma-Informed CBT, to help clients heal from trauma. Dr. Martarella encourages clients to pay attention to their body's responses and incorporates biofeedback when appropriate.
Dr. Martarella earned a psychology Master's degree (MA) then her Doctoral degree (PsyD in 2005). She recognizes the unique toll that physical pain or chronic illness can cause and helps people reclaim their life by providing compassionate care.
