Group Therapist

Dr. Alexander Ochoa is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist located in San Francisco, CA. Dr. Ochoa specializes in working with athletes who would like to grow their performance by prioritizing their mental health. He helps athletes who struggle with fears of injury and reinjury, as well as those who would like to develop a strong mindset when it comes to their sport. Dr. Ochoa also supports clients who struggle with identity loss, anxiety, depression, substance use, and relationship conflicts. Many of his clients come to therapy to learn skills in effective communication so they can resolve conflict effectively.

Dr. Ochoa practices from a systems perspective, which means that he views clients’ actions, thoughts, and feelings as a result of the systems within which they live. He encourages clients to think about their larger context and how they fit into the picture when it comes to relationships, families, communities, teams, and workplaces. Dr. Ochoa helps clients set goals for themselves, whether those goals are for a state of wellbeing, a level of performance at work or in their sport, or a better place in their relationships. He then supports clients as they work towards their goals, circling back to why they’re in therapy as a way of reminding them where they’re headed.

Dr. Ochoa has a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology and a PhD in Family Therapy from Saint Louis University. He has over 10 years of experience working with clients across a variety of therapeutic settings. As a past athlete, competing in both football and rugby, Dr. Ochoa brings his passion for sports into sessions to support his clients who have performance goals. He also brings his experience as a father and a Latino man into the therapy space, deepening his empathy for his clients.
