DBT Skills Group

Description

I lead a weekly, 1.5-hour adherent DBT Skills Group that covers all 4 modules in the Linehan DBT Skills Workbook: Mindfulness, Interpersonal Effectiveness, Emotion Regulation, Distress Tolerance. The group follows a set schedule each week, starting with a brief mindfulness practice to open, followed by homework review and discussion, then we go over new material, and more homework is assigned.

Sarah is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor who specializes in evidence-based treatments for life transitions, existential crises, women’s issues, anxiety, depression, and trauma. She completed her undergraduate degree at Georgia State University, received her Master's of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Clemson University, and has been practicing since 2016.

Sarah's ideal clients are individuals in their 20s and 30s who are experiencing stress, generalized anxiety, depression, existential dread, family of origin concerns, LGBTQ-related concerns, maladaptive perfectionism, or trouble with their relationships. While she has honed her basic skills treating depression and anxiety, she also really enjoys helping people through life transitions, unpacking unhelpful thought patterns, and using an existential, "big-picture" approach. Sarah works with her clients to identify any thought patterns, beliefs or narratives that clients might find distressing, unhealthy or no longer useful, and explore how to holistically experience life the way you find most fulfilling and meaningful. She enjoys being really collaborative and knows that while you're coming to her for help and perspective, YOU are the expert on your own experience and you are guiding the goals in the therapeutic process. She is committed to ongoing allyship, regularly attending lived-experience-led trainings, and is trans-, queer-, and genderqueer-competent and affirming.

Sarah is known for unprecedented responsiveness, her warm smile, and her ability to balance being easy to talk to with getting “real” when need be. When she is not in session, she enjoys traveling, finding new podcasts, cooking, and going on walks with her husband and their golden retriever, Teddy. Sarah knows taking the first step to find a therapist isn't easy and does not take that show of strength lightly—she is committed to her clients’ wellness and her number one goal is client growth and satisfaction.
