Happiness Seekers Group Therapy

This specialized group therapy focuses on cultivating happiness and positive emotions as key components of the recovery process. The primary goal is to help participants discover and nurture sources of genuine happiness beyond substance use, providing them with powerful motivations towards sobriety while enhancing overall life satisfaction and well-being. This approach can help group members in developing a more positive outlook on life while continuing to build resilience against cravings and triggers. While discovering meaningful activities and relationships to replace substance use and strengthen motivation for long-term recovery.

By focusing on happiness and positive emotions, this group therapy model aims to transform the recovery process from one of deprivation to one of growth and fulfillment, supporting lasting change and a more joyful, substance-free life.

Core Components

1. Gratitude Practice: Participants engage in regular gratitude exercises, such as journaling or sharing things they're thankful for, to shift focus from losses to acceptance and appreciation.

2. Positive Psychology Techniques: The group incorporates evidence-based positive psychology interventions to boost happiness and well-being.

3. Goal Setting: Members identify personal sources of happiness and set achievable goals to incorporate more joy into their lives.

4. Mindfulness and Present-Moment Awareness: Techniques to help participants stay grounded in the present and fully experience positive emotions.

5. Strengths Identification: Exercises to help members recognize and leverage their personal strengths.

6. Social Connection: Activities to foster genuine connections among group members, enhancing social support and shared positive experiences.

Session Structure- Each session might include:

1. A brief happiness-boosting exercise

2. Group discussion on happiness-related topics

3. Sharing of personal experiences and progress

4. Introduction of new happiness-enhancing strategies

5. Goal-setting for the coming week

Group Therapist
