Katherine Casey is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Flatiron, Manhattan who specializes in perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, addiction, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and somatic therapy for trauma, grief, and chronic pain.
When working with mothers with perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, Katherine utilizes evidence-based short-term targeted interventions, like CBT. Because she understands that these clients are adjusting to a new normal and may not have much time to dedicate to therapy, Katherine offers goal-oriented solutions to ensure they get the help they need.
Katherine implements somatic therapies, including the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT/Tapping) when working with clients who are experiencing grief or chronic pain or have a history of trauma. She will also use these body-based methods when working with clients who experienced birth trauma. In addition, Katherine works with her clients to identify relaxing, pleasurable coping mechanisms.
When working with new clients, Katherine will start off with CBT before moving into EFT/tapping, if appropriate. This helps clients first reframe their negative thoughts before reconnecting with their bodies. Her sessions are client-led, and she only utilizes techniques that clients are comfortable with.
Katherine has extensive training in postpartum support and has also trained in Seeking Safety, an evidence-based, present-focused counseling model to help people attain safety from trauma and/or substance abuse. In addition, she is completing certification at the Feleni Institute in perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. Katherine is passionate about the work she does and wants to ensure she is offering the best care possible. She looks forward to meeting you at her office conveniently located near the 23rd Street subway station.
