Dr. Curotto leads PAWS Chicago's monthly Pet Loss Support group HEAL (Helping Each other Alleviate Loss). This support group is designed to help grieving pet parents work together to deal with the complex emotions of losing a pet in a calm, safe, and non-judgmental atmosphere.
Group Therapist
Dr. Nancy Curotto is a licensed Clinical Psychologist with offices in the Lake View and Millennium Park Neighborhoods in Chicago, Illinois, and offers the option for remote video sessions. She specializes in developmental trauma, anxiety, depression, including Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), life transitions, relationship stress, loss, and grief ( Specifically pet loss). Dr. Curotto works with adults across the life span, including doctoral students who are coping with academic anxiety. She has extensive experience in working with clients who experience anxiety in the following areas: panic (generalized and focused anxiety), worrying about the future, career, relationships, life transitions, relocation and immigration stress, and financial stress.
Dr. Curotto offers a specialized treatment approach to ensure that her clients’ needs and goals are being met. Her sessions are person-centered, and she meets her clients wherever they are. She is certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) and uses this approach when working with clients with a history of trauma and who have experienced a frightening event. She utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindful Therapy, Family Systems Therapy, and life coaching when appropriate.
As a Certified Pet Loss and Bereavement Specialist, Dr. Curotto has extensive experience working with individuals who have lost a pet or are anticipating the loss of a pet. Some people feel they need to keep their loss and grief a secret from one’s employers, family members, peers, and/or community members. Dr. Curotto has a deep understanding of how pet loss grief can be socially stigmatizing and lead to disenfranchised grief.
