This 8-week group will cover topics including:
-Eating disorders in marginalized populations
-Internalized racism and acculturative stress
-Eating disorder diagnosis & treatment experiences as a person of color
-Culture of food & its impact on eating disorders
-Cultural considerations of family & friends
-Communication skills, self-advocacy, and more!
These topics will be explored with sensitivity toward the lived experience of each person’s unique racial, ethnic, and cultural identity. This group is available to individuals who identify as a racial or ethnic minority, regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation. Recovery In Color is an online support group providing a safe space for individuals of color to discuss and process their personal experiences with disordered eating, eating disorders, and eating disorder treatment in mostly white spaces. Participants will interact with and receive support from peers in similar situations.
Aurora Center NYC is a full-service outpatient treatment center that provides a supportive environment for helping clients at all stages of their eating disorder recovery. At Aurora, clients are guided through a holistic, integrated recovery that includes nutrition counseling and meal support therapy.
Additionally, the providers at Aurora Center NYC help clients navigate a variety of mental health and emotional wellness challenges, including anxiety, depression, issues related to college and graduate school, and relationship concerns.
Along with individual counseling, Aurora Center provides life coaching, couples counseling, family therapy, and both individual and group yoga therapy.
