You’ll gain expert-backed strategies from child behavior specialists, reduce stress and guilt through reassurance and coping techniques, and discover approaches that strengthen your bond with your child—while preserving your own well-being.
This group is designed for parents and caregivers of children who experience frequent meltdowns, anger outbursts, or behavioral challenges related to ADHD, autism, ODD, or anxiety. It’s also for those parenting strong-willed or boundary-testing children—or anyone who simply finds parenting more difficult than expected. You’re not alone, and this group is here to help.
Group Therapist
Amy Knight is a Licensed Counselor in Algonquin. She typically works with children, adolescents, and college aged students. Many of Amy’s clients come in to address anxiety, depression, ADHD, behavior disorders and adjustment disorders.
Amy is trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness and Solution Focused Therapy. CBT helps you become more aware of irrational or negative thinking so you can view challenging situations more clearly and respond to them in a more effective way. Solution Focused Therapy is a goal directed approach that focuses on building solutions rather than solving the problem. Mindfulness focuses on learning how to be more aware of thoughts, feelings, emotions and situations and works to reduce automatic responses. These approaches assist in helping clients feel more relaxed and validated. Clients will feel like they are being heard and will feel that they can open up without judgement or criticism. Clients will develop a greater sense of being and understanding about themselves and their emotions and learn how to navigate through those feelings.
Amy's style is non-judgmental, engaging and accommodating. When clients first start therapy, they will work together to set manageable and reasonable goals and work to build a trusting relationship. Amy reminds her clients that this is their session and she will adapt to their needs.
Amy received her MC from National -Louis University. She has worked at Children’s Home and Aid, a school counselor at Marlowe Middle School, and an elementary counselor in District 47. Outside of private practice, she likes to be active which includes rollerblading and hiking with her German Shepard, Colt. She also loves summers at the lake playing beach games with her kids. Amy offers both in person and virtual sessions. Amy works out of her home office which is a confidential and quiet setting.
