Supporting a loved one with OCD

Description

Loved ones are an important in the progress for individuals living with OCD. The goal of this workshop is to provide support for caretakers and education on treatment for OCD and Anxiety. It is not treatment or psychotherapy, therefore, individuals are not required to attend a set number of sessions.

Group Therapist

Sarah Farris is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in Chicago and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Wisconsin who works with adults. She specializes in Anxiety and Panic disorders, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), life transitions, body-image anxiety, and executive functioning challenges. She also has experience working with clients who have a troubled relationship with food or have had an eating disorder in the past and are wanting to maintain their progress.

While Sarah sees adults across the lifespan, many of her clients are college students, working professionals, and competitive or retired athletes, who may be experiencing high stress and anxiety.

Sarah utilizes evidence-based therapies, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), when working with individuals with a phobia, OCD, Body-Dysmorphic Disorder, and/or an anxiety and panic disorder. She also utilizes mindfulness practices with most of her clients to help with increasing non-judgmental awareness, distress tolerance and general stress management and wellbeing. She has completed advanced trainings from leading experts in the field of effective treatments for OCD and BDD.

Sarah emphasizes self-care and helps her clients develop a healthy work-life balance. She teaches her clients how to effectively communicate their needs and desires with friends, family, colleagues, partners, etc. Additionally, she offers support for caregivers of loved ones with OCD. This can, in turn, help individuals develop a sense of self-esteem and self-worth as they learn how to support others and themselves. Sarah enjoys empowering her clients and supporting them on their journey toward self-acceptance.
