Group Therapist
Monica Bergnes is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker located in New York, NY. Monica is passionate about helping people who have experienced trauma, the death of a loved one, or have a complicated relationship with food and their bodies.
Monica’s approach to therapy is based in both traditional talk therapy and evidenced based trauma therapies. She helps clients understand how the ways their bodies respond to traumatic memories functions to keep them safe. She then teaches clients new ways to calm both their minds and bodies in the face of those triggers. Monica takes a trauma-informed approach to therapy, making sure that each of her clients feel safe and supported during sessions. Monica provides EMDR for past and recent trauma. She is also a certified Intuitive Eating Counselor and works with people who need help recovering from disordered eating and chronic dieting.
Monica earned her Master’s degrees in Psychology and Social Work and is a personable, compassionate therapist. She collaborates with clients to explore their pasts, their identities, and their values. Her goal is to empower clients to confront their emotional reactions to stressors and triggers and to teach clients the skills they need to live comfortably.
In addition to therapy, Monica offers comprehensive immigration evaluations for asylum, VAWA, U-Visa, T-Visa, and hardship waiver cases, helping clients navigate the legal process with detailed, trauma-informed reports.
