Description
Grief is a natural response to losing someone or something; death of a loved one, friend, pet, the end of a relationship (due to abuse or by mutual agreement), loss of job, chronic illness, disability (yours or a loved one), moving, and other life transitions. If you are dealing with any of these, the healing group is for you. You will learn ways to:
- Understand and cope with the stages of grief
- Avoid numbing behaviors
- Process negative thoughts
- Process feelings of regret, guilt and shame due to loss
- Deal with upsetting memories through mindfulness and Art therapy

Uwem Obot is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Houston - TX. She works with adults of all ages. Many of Uwem’s clients come in to address Anxiety, depression, Personality Disorder, Relationship issues unresolved grief, Women issues, unresolved trauma. Uwem is particularly passionate about serving Individuals going through life transitions, trauma survivors, and individuals struggling with addiction. She also has experience working with people with Depression, low self-esteem, and PTSD.
Uwem is trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, motivational interviewing, and other integrative approaches, in which she focuses on helping clients develop skills related to accepting circumstances and making changes, analyzing behaviors, learning healthier patterns of responding, and changing unhelpful, maladaptive, or negative thoughts. Clients also learn to develop collaborative skills for managing symptoms outside of the session. In a session, Uwem focuses on breathing exercises, and grounding tools that can be practiced in stressful situations. Uwem also focuses on helping clients question their thoughts, explore alternative thought processes, and empower clients to gain insight into the innate strength they have to manage life’s stressors. This approach supports clients and helps them to make decisions that are more aligned with their values.
Uwem’s style is warm, thoughtful, non-judgmental, engaging, positive, present, and encouraging. When clients first start therapy, Uwem strives to establish a strong, transparent, relationship and create a comfortable and welcoming environment where they feel safe and heard.
Uwem received her Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health from the University of Houston – Victoria, and her Master of Arts in Psychology from The University of Houston – Clear Lake. She has worked at The Women's Home – Houston, The Right Step – Houston, and Fort Bend County Juvenile Detention. Outside of private practice, She Enjoys reading, spending time with family and friends, and traveling. Uwem is currently offering remote and in-person.
