The EMDR and Counseling Center specializes in EMDR, a method of therapy that offers quick and permanent results and is one of the top 5 research-backed trauma therapies in the world. EMDR stands for Eye-Movement Desensitization Reprocessing and works by harnessing the body's biological and subconscious process of healing by making it a conscious process instead. The body processes events and emotions during sleep, particularly during the fourth stage of sleep called REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep, the stage of sleep in which we dream the most. The current theory is that our dreams are our brains attempt to process events and emotions by metaphor and eye movements aid that process through bilateral stimulation, activating both sides of the brain in an alternating pattern achieved by the eyes moving back and forth. EMDR utilizes the body's natural method of processing by making it a conscious process which allows a depth of treatment that few other therapies achieve.

EMDR is very different from traditional talk therapy, but its results speak for itself. It is highly regarded for trauma treatment and is equally effective for various other psychological diagnosis. On average, EMDR takes 2-4 sessions to completely work through any given issue with the average increasing slightly to 4-6 sessions for highly traumatic events. It is our goal not only to help you work through the issues that brought you to therapy and become the healthiest version of yourself but also to empower you by teaching you to do EMDR on your own so that you can confidently address any issue that arises in the future without the need of a therapist.

About

What services does your practice offer?

The EMDR and Counseling Center is a group practice located in Cottonwood Heights. We offer therapy services to individuals and couples of all ages.

How does payment work at your practice?

EMDR and Counseling Center is in network with Medicaid and Select Health. Without insurance, sessions are $120. To get an idea of total cost, most clients average between 8-14 sessions for the completion of therapy.

Why should I choose your practice?

Each clinician at the EMDR and Counseling Center is passionate about EMDR and is extensively trained in how to best use it to treat a variety of issues. While our clinicians are also adept at talk therapy, we recognize that its impact is limited when compared to EMDR. We believe that EMDR will help you heal faster and more effectively than traditional methods of therapy. Additionally, by the end of therapy you will know how to do EMDR on your own which will be an irreplaceable skill that you can use as needed for your sustained emotional and mental health.

What are your practice's specialties?

The EMDR and Counseling Center specializes in treating trauma including PTSD and C-PTSD, anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues and insecurities, body image, phobias and fears, sensory sensitivities, substance abuse, work related issues, faith transitions, etc. We also do couples or relational therapy under the assumption that most relational problems stem from the problems of the individuals so therapy would include couples sessions with a heavy emphasis on individual therapy.
