Professional statement

Suhana deLeon-Sanchez is a Columbia University trained, board-certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. She is a true New Yorker who was raised in Brooklyn, NY. Suhana studied Physics and Biology at Carnegie Mellon University before returning to NYC where she attended Columbia University for graduate training in psychiatry.

Suhana is a seasoned psychiatric provider and woman of color who has dedicated her life's work to providing compassionate, unbiased mental health care. She practices in NYC at her Manhattan office location in Tribeca and is available for virtual sessions with clients located throughout the states of New York and New Jersey.

She uses a supportive approach during sessions that is warm, empowering, affirming, and open-minded. She is a holistic provider who stresses the importance of regular physical exercise and healthy eating as part of treatment planning. You will often overhear her telling anyone that will listen to move their body more and to eat more whole, plant-based foods for optimal physical and emotional health.

Suhana has experience working in a variety of health care settings, including community health, large hospital systems, and in private practice. She has consistently been a leader and educator in the field, serving as mental health site director in a community setting, and regularly lecturing future clinicians at Columbia University before opening her own private practice in 2013.

When Suhana is not actively treating clients, you can find her fiercely advocating for children and adults with mental health challenges and special needs. Since 2019 she has been volunteering her time on the board of managers at the North Brooklyn YMCA where she is currently working on improving access to recreational and social programming for these groups.

Message to clients

I utilize talk therapy and safely prescribe medications with a goal to help alleviate the specific uncomfortable feelings you are experiencing while working to minimize potential side effects. If medications are needed, we will work together to choose the best medicine. Using medications to feel emotionally healthy does NOT always have to be lifelong and can be short-term only.

If you are seeking 5-minute med-check visits with a prescriber then I am NOT the right match for you! I will carefully listen in order understand how I can best help you and will take the time to explore all of your psychotherapy and medication options with you. I will educate, guide, and support you to select the safest, most effective plan tailored specifically for you as an individual. My hope is that our work together will help you wake up each day looking forward to enjoying the higher quality, more joyous life that you deserve.

I maintain an affirming, allied stance and strive to provide body-positivity, neurodiversity, and LGBTQIA+ affirming care.
