Dr. Samir Patel is a board-certified adult psychiatrist and fellowship trained geriatric psychiatrist in Providence, RI. As Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at Brown's Medical School, he is a psychotherapy supervisor and teacher at its Psychiatry Residency Program.
Given his training and experiences as well as intellectual interests, he treats adults of all ages using an integrated approach, which means, he incorporates psychotherapy and/or medications as clinically needed. He collaborates with his patients to treat their psychiatric illness and address related stressors/problems, while helping them rediscover their strengths and build on them.
His overall treatment is grounded in attachment theory and client-centered or humanistic approach. That is, he tries to be as mindful of the needs of his patients and their experience of the treatment, the therapeutic relationship and the external influences. Often as this awareness develops, his patients feel a deeper and more solid sense of themselves, their problems, and their existing and evolving internal and relational resources.
He runs a private psychiatric practice, where he offers his clinical services. His practice is located on the East Side of Providence, RI, close to the Brown University campus and Wayland Square.
