Professional statement

Abby Zackin is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Lower Manhattan who specializes in depression, anxiety, trauma, grief and loss, attachment disorder, and relationships. She sees adults across the lifespan, but she especially enjoys working with college students and young adults in their 20s and 30s.

Abby’s treatment approach is both goal-oriented and insight-oriented. While she helps clients understand what is happening in the moment and what triggers their symptoms, she also works with them to better understand how their past experiences have influenced who they are today. She uses this same approach when working with individuals with a history of trauma by utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and mindfulness practices, like meditation and breathing exercises, to help them develop healthier coping strategies while also exploring the underlying issue. She is also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Recontextualization (EMDR), which is an invaluable tool for processing traumatic experiences and attachment issues.

Abby helps her clients develop compassion for themselves and offers a safe space for them to work through their challenges. She studied at the at the Institute for the Psychoanalytic Study of Subjectivity (IPSS) for two years where she studied self-psychology and early attachment and how they relate to trauma. She earned her MSW from New York University. Her office is conveniently located steps away from the 14th Street - Union Square subway station.
