Professional statement

Dr. Ekert Rothstein is a Licensed Psychologist who works with children, teens, and adults of all ages as well as parents. When working with adults she enjoys working with those who are navigating major life transitions, such as leaving home for the first time, starting college, beginning a new job, switching positions or careers, as well as leaving a relationship or beginning a new one.  She helps people overcome anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, and self-esteem issues.

When working with teens Dr. Ekert Rothstein works with the understanding that as adolescents develop socially and emotionally, their search for identity is central. She works toward helping teens be comfortable with who they are as this is a crucial step for their leading happy, healthy lives. When supporting families overcome common struggles and work toward positive change, she focuses on helping them feeling more connected.

Dr. Ekert Rothstein’s training is rooted in the rich tradition of psychodynamic therapy which values self-awareness and understanding of the self. She often explores how experiences in childhood affect someone's way of interacting with the world. She has augmented her psychodynamic foundation with CBT techniques, also offering skills-based work when beneficial and developing concrete strategies to help a client reach their goals.

She has worked in a wide variety of settings and with clients with various background. As a long-time resident of the US with strong cultural ties to Europe, her own immigration experience has naturally informed and shaped her thinking as a psychologist and draws her to working with individuals seeking to integrate varied cultural backgrounds into their lives.

Dr. Ekert Rothstein’s style is interactive, warm, collaborative, and respectful. She feels passionate about helping clients better understand, value and have compassion for themselves and sees it as a privilege to be a part of this journey.

Message to clients

People come to therapy with all sorts of challenges – You may be stuck on a particular problem that seems to appear over and over or you are struggling with making decisions and then moving on. Maybe something unfortunate has happened in your life. Sometimes people have difficulty managing their emotions and the behaviors that result and want to learn to have better ways to cope. Often my clients are hoping to find deeper meaning in their work, their relationships and in the life they have created. Allowing yourself the space to engage in therapy gives us an opportunity to explore your thoughts and feelings in a safe and private way. Our work together creates a place where you can try out new ways of looking at things without having to worry about any unwanted impact this may have on your current relationships.

My clients benefit from the safe and open environment I provide where they can be themselves and talk openly. Once we establish a trusting connection, we can work together on the changes that you are looking to make. My clinical approach is flexible, as I employ a range of modalities, adjusting to what best serves your specific situation and needs. Developing practical and concrete strategies to help you reach your goals will be an important part of our work together. I look forward to meeting you.
