Professional statement

Ashley Hamilton is a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in the Mission district. She welcomes adults of all ages. Many individuals bravely arrive to her therapy office to address anxiety, trauma, depression, relationship challenges, and adjustment to parenthood; all of which often shake our foundation and sense of self. Ashley is particularly passionate about supporting adults with anxiety and adults healing from earlier life experiences. She also has advanced training in the areas of anxiety, trauma and attachment wounding, informed by the latest research on neurobiology.

Ashley is trained in Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy. Building trust in the therapeutic relationship allows for safe exploration of coping patterns, underlying emotions and experiences. From there, Ashley helps to expand your capacity to lower anxiety, shame, guilt and experience deeper held emotions. This leads to a more authentic, confident, and strong relationship with yourself and others.

In session, Ashley focuses on slowing down together to lower anxiety and observe what happens in your body and mind that are causing distress. You will begin noticing patterns that may have helped you at one point and now cost you something. You will be safely guided to process emotions that feel too overwhelming to face alone. This approach supports clients to experience within themselves resilience, inner wisdom, self-actualization, energy, and fulfillment. They often feel more present, engaged, confident, and authentic in their relationships or other areas. They develop tools and practices to self-regulate and meet their experiences with agency and openness.

Ashley's style is warm, active, and genuinely caring. When clients first start therapy, they will cultivate a space of compassion and healing, where their strengths and courage to grow are authentically recognized.

Ashley received her M.A. in Counseling Psychology from The Wright Institute, Berkeley. Outside of private practice, she keeps up with her energetic 2.5 year old and Vizsla dog.

Message to clients

Hi there! Therapy is about having a solid place where all parts of you are welcome. Where curiosity, safe exploration, and inner-knowing can flourish. I believe in therapy as I have experienced the transformations that happen when we are truly seen and accepted, and our vulnerable parts of our experiences are held with genuine care and compassion. The best way to understand this process and see if we are a good fit, is to book a first session. I look forward to learning about what makes you, you, and how I can best support you in your goals for change.
