Professional statement

Betsy Colvin is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who is working on line through telehealth. Betsy Colvin provides expert care for teenagers and young adults who experience distressing emotional states. She gives her clients a safe space to talk about what’s stressing them out, weighing heavily on their minds, bothering them at home or school, or leading them to dark thoughts. Some of Betsy’s clients resort to unhealthy behaviors to cope with their pain. Betsy helps those clients process through their pain and adopt healthier ways to manage their emotions.

Betsy’s approach to therapy draws from many evidence-based modalities. She teaches her clients about the importance of attachment and feeling connected to others. She also encourages them to explore how the relationships early in their lives impact their current ways of connecting with others. For her younger clients, she uses play therapy or parent-child interaction therapy to help clients express their emotions, especially the ones that are difficult to put into words.

Betsy earned her Master’s degree from Dominican University. She is an expert at helping teenagers and young adults process through the challenging feelings that arise at that time of life. She teaches her clients how to cope with their emotions and move forward in their lives.

Message to clients

I know that it can be a difficult thing to come in and see a new therapist or make an appointment to come in for therapy. I want to reassure you that if you are reading this then you are probably ready to make that next step. I would love to work with you and help you through what is going on in your life.

I just want to let you know that I am here to help you and support you through this time. I know that therapy brings up some difficult things that need to be discussed but let me reassure you that I am here to help you and listen to you. I won't go beyond what you can handle at the time of us starting as I want to start where you are comfortable. The harder topics will come up in time throughout the therapy process.

Be gentle with yourself. It is a process to go through therapy and it takes time. It won't all be "fixed" overnight but it will get better while working through therapy. I just want to let you know that I am your support and your biggest fan during this time.
