Professional statement

Diane Lopez is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Psychoanalyst specializing in depression, anxiety, relationship issues, workplace issues, trauma, and grief. Her work with individuals and couples focuses on understanding and reworking the impact of early experiences, especially in one’s family of origin. She finds it deeply gratifying to engage clients in reworking these early templates and helping them create positive, long-lasting changes in their lives.

Diane spent more than 15 years working with Fortune 100 companies on issues around organizational effectiveness, leadership development and employee satisfaction. She brings her business experience to help clients navigate workplace conflicts and other obstacles to career satisfaction.

Diane often works with clients struggling with a harsh internal critic. This incessant critic can hold us back from being our full selves and achieving personal and professional goals. By creating a safe, non-judgmental space, Diane encourages exploration of the roots of that negative self-talk and facilitates a new perspective and compassion towards the self that leads to true healing.

In her work with couples, Diane helps partners better understand the influence of their respective histories and how that impacts their expectations, reactivity and communication patterns. She uses this understanding to help couples resolve conflict and re-establish connection.

In addition, Diane uses mindfulness-based body awareness in her work. This includes breathwork and an expanded awareness of the ways trauma lodges itself in our bodies. Diane believes that the journey towards healing involves establishing and nourishing a connection between our physical and emotional selves.

Diane currently offers remote psychotherapy via Zoom.

Message to clients

I believe that effective therapy is based on connection. I engage deeply with my clients in exploring what holds them back from leading a more fulfilling life. While I’ve had significant training and experience, I do not position myself as the expert. I see us as partners in a journey of discovery, whether we are addressing painful relationship dynamics or difficulties achieving goals. My primary objective is to create psychological and emotional space in which you can open up to yourself and better understand your own thoughts and feelings. While I will guide, support, and, at times, challenge you, I respect that you are the expert on yourself, so we travel on this journey together.

Life can be challenging, and confronting these challenges in therapy isn’t easy. I believe that the rapport and connection we build will help you feel safe. We work at the pace and depth that feels possible for you. And while I take this journey very seriously, I recognize that humor can often help get us through difficult emotional terrain. I look forward to talking with you further.
