Professional statement

Ellen Chazdon is a licensed psychologist in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Many of Dr. Chazdon's clients come in when they feel stuck in their lives, when previous coping strategies are no longer working. Dr. Chazdon is particularly passionate about helping people who want to grow and heal from adverse life circumstances and trauma. This approach supports clients to learn how to heal and move forward in their lives, and assert their hopes and dreams about the lives they want to live. Dr. Chazdon also has advanced training in Psychoanalysis, addiction, abuse, and historical trauma.

Dr. Chazdon is trained in psychoanalytic psychotherapy, which uses focused dialogue about thoughts, feelings, and life experiences that are helpful to reflect on. In sessions, Dr. Chazdon focuses on helping people learn to make use of a supportive relationship where they can be known and heard. This helps clients know and hear themselves at a deeper level, which helps people work on valuing and strengthening their inner worlds.

Dr. Chazdon's style is direct and inquisitive. When a client first comes in, Dr. Chazdon meets her clients where they are at, and tailors her approach to the particular client's needs. Whether a client is in search of an empathic presence, or a trained professional who can hear about the surreal nature of stressors people are experiencing in these times of intense stress and change. People find creative ways to overcome challenges and adversity. The structure of therapy helps clients find the courage and support to grow and change.

Message to clients

Therapy is about the life of the mind, working on creating calm spaces where you can think and feel, in order to connect with your truth at the deepest level. I have been providing therapy for over 25 years, and I continue to see my practice as a powerful vehicle in helping clients work on healing, creating, and truth telling.

Coping skills that worked in one chapter of your life may no longer serve you in the present chapter. You can reflect on this as you work on growing and progressing in your life.

I intentionally limit my practice so that I can offer accessibility and flexibility. I would be glad to talk with you further about my practice, and look forward to speaking with you.
