Professional statement

Gerri Cadet Mareus is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in New York City who works with people to foster self-discovery, and healing. She uses a racially trauma informed and intersectional approach to her work. People may visit her when feeling unfulfilled with certain aspects of their lives. Such feelings of un-fulfillment or being stuck can lead to sadness, worry, or confusion. Gerri understands that these strong emotions can paralyze us and impact our relationships, work, school, or parts of our daily lives. It is Gerri's hope that humans realize they don't have to struggle alone; by embarking on a journey together in therapy, they can alleviate the intensity of their emotions.

In addition to adult individuals, Gerri works with children, who can experience feelings of worry and sadness. At times, they communicate their feelings through their behaviors. She collaboratively works with caregivers to help manage their child’s actions and to strengthen their relationship. Using psychodynamic play therapy, Gerri can help children process and help manage their emotions.

Gerri believes that it’s vital to foster a trusting relationship with each individual. When humans experience trust and compassion in a therapy space, it's easier to explore patterns in relationships and the meaning of intense emotions. Gerri helps cultivate a “safe enough” space to explore aspects of yourself. She strives to deepen clients relationships with others, help them understand their emotions, and ultimately lead a more fulfilling life.

Message to clients

My approach to therapy is one of mutual collaboration and fostering a therapeutic alliance that facilitates change. You will be able to express yourself within our supportive, nonjudgmental therapeutic space. I engage young children in play therapy, in close partnership with their caregivers. I also work with adolescents and adults.
