Psychologist, PhD Specialties • Insurance & Fees • LocationsDr. H’Sien Hayward is a licensed clinical psychologist based in the Bay Area of Northern California, where she welcomes adult individuals and couples who are seeking to transform their lives and relationships. She uses strengths-based and empirically-supported methods, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT).
Dr. Hayward has extensive experience working with a wide range of mental health concerns, and creates culturally-sensitive treatment plans that are individually tailored to each person with whom she works. Her work with couples is rooted in the science of attachment and uses gold standard interventions to enable fundamentally different ways of relating to one another, thereby removing relationship roadblocks, transforming conflict into deeper connection, and facilitating greater trust and intimacy.
Dr. Hayward’s style is warm, thoughtful, and gently challenging. Therapy sessions integrate both insight-oriented and skills-based approaches. She is committed to respecting the worth of all persons and maintains a diverse, equitable, and inclusive practice that serves those with differing abilities, races/ethnicities, gender identities, and the LGBTQIA+ community.
She received her PhD from Harvard University, completed a postdoctoral respecialization at the California School for Professional Psychology - San Francisco, spent several years training at VA Medical Centers, and did her postdoctoral fellowship at Stanford University Medical Center. At Harvard, her award-winning and widely published doctoral research focused on the science of happiness and posttraumatic growth, which informs her clinical practice today. Dr. Hayward offers the convenience and flexibility of remote therapy sessions.
