Professional statement

Hanifa Akpe is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Georgia and a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in the state of Illinois. Hanifa works with adults aged 18+, both in individual and couple's therapy. She specializes in working with clients who are struggling with anxiety and depression; who are having difficulty managing life transitions and stressors; and have experienced trauma. Hanifa greatly appreciates diversity and loves to work with clients of all backgrounds and orientations.

Hanifa believes that the core of therapy is the relationship between client and therapist and therefore has an active and engaged therapy style. She has a background in Social Work and uses this to frame her work with clients and assess holistically; she believes that it is important to take into consideration the whole person as well as his/her/their communities. Hanifa believes that insight and awareness, while extremely important, are not enough and strives to equip her clients with more tools for the toolkit. Hanifa regularly utilizes CBT, DBT, mindfulness, grounding and trauma-informed practices. Hanifa does not believe that "one size fits all" as it pertains to treatment and is very engaged with her clients to determine the best treatment plan for their journey together.

Hanifa is currently accepting new clients in both Illinois (virtually) and Georgia (in person and virtually). Her office is located in Sandy Springs, GA and she meets with clients Monday through Thursday from 10a to 7p.

Message to clients

Hello, my name is Hanifa :) I understand that finding a new therapist can be taxing and even scary, so I appreciate that you have taken the time to view my profile. I respect the effort and energy it takes to reach out to a professional for help. I believe that becoming the best you possible is a journey. So wherever therapy finds itself on that journey, I would love to join you. Together we will work to better equip you with the tools you need to be the best you. You have always been and will always be the expert of your own experience, and my hope is to come along side of you to figure out the barriers to reaching your goals. I look so forward to us working together.
