Professional statement

Haruna Miyamoto-Borg is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the Flatiron District neighborhood of Manhattan. She helps individuals and couples stop repeating destructive and often self-defeating patterns of behavior. She does so by working collaboratively to help people gain deeper understanding of their issues and of the complex factors that underlie such patterns.

Haruna’s style is an integrative approach that includes psychodynamic, cognitive- behavioral, family system, and mindfulness therapy. She works with individuals and couples to help them understand the underlying reasons for their behaviors in the present. This not only increases their understanding of themselves but it will also allows them let go of the familiar but dysfunctional ways of coping with life events. Many of the clients that Haruna works with are navigating such issues as depression, anxiety, trauma, addictions, infidelity, and sexual dysfunctions.

Haruna is also an anger management specialist, and is currently enrolled in postgraduate family and couple training at Ackerman Institute for the family.

Message to clients

I believe that being aware of oneself in our most intimate relationships brings a tremendous sense of happiness and fulfillment to ourselves and each other. I value honest, open, thoughtful, compassionate and responsive ways of engaging with my clients. My goal is to help individuals and couples develop ways of expressing themselves that allows them to harness intimacy in their relationships. I share some of my work as a therapist on a Psychology Today blog; Couples and Culture.
