Professional statement

The experience of trauma is one that feels like falling forever, feeling broken, or out-of-control. You often feel misunderstood by friends and family, isolated from others, disconnected from yourself, and lost. You feel overwhelmed, hopeless, and drained. And in spite of this, you are ready for a change. You want to reconnect with your true self, form and maintain deep and meaningful relationships with others, and regain a sense of empowerment and agency in your life again. Above all else, you are ready to take back your life, and move forward with a sense of purpose and meaning. James can help you find this.

James Nole is a psychotherapist, who practices from a relational psychodynamic framework. James has extensive training both in relational psychodynamic therapy, and trauma and dissociation through the ISSTD. His approach focuses on the importance of relationship, and creating a safe space to connect with all aspects and parts of one’s self, and explore new ways-of-Being. Through his work with complex trauma, James understands the importance of learning how to self-regulate, process emotions, and integrate traumatic memories into a new narrative. He looks at the whole of a person, and embraces the mind-body connection, and how we can heal through others. James believes that we are formed in relationships, we are harmed in relationships– but we heal in relationships.

James specialzies in working with survivors of sexual abuse, complex PTSD, and dissociative identity disorder.. James sees clients in-person and virtual, and is located in Seattle. As a blind and disabled person, he understands that beauty is found in your brokenness. Reach out for a free 15 minutes consultation to see if we would be a good fit.

Message to clients

Therapy is about getting in touch with all parts of yourself, and healing through relationship. This relationship starts between you and I, as patient and therapist, and lays the groundwork for you to enter into a deeper relationship with yourself and others. We find our true selves through authentic relation with the other.

True healing in my experience is hard at times. Therapy can be both uplifting and challenging all at the same time. There are times where you will want to give up, growing frustrated with the process or having a hard time seeing any progress. The healing journey is not a linear path, as it spirals and comes around in cycles. Just as in life– healing has its ups and downs– its ebbs and flows along the way.

In my experience as a blind/disabled person, I understand how hard it can be to push past the down cycles and get back up after each fall. The path of recovery and acceptance is a life-long art in learning how to embrace and surrender to the present moment. Forging stronger bonds, finding passion and hope, healing from past trauma– all of these things are possible. I’ve experienced it myself through my own healing journey in psychotherapy. I know it can work, and I know we all just need to find the right person to help us get there.
