Professional statement

Jason Aylsworth is a Licensed Mental Health Clinician located in Newton, MA. Jason specializes in helping clients move past traumatic experiences, increase their ability effectively regulate their thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and addictions. Many of his clients suffer from anxiety throughout daily life, trauma, overwhelming sadness and feelings of depression, problems with focus, concentration, perfectionism and procrastination, and difficulty in their relationships. Jason supports clients through these distressing feelings by offering warm, compassionate conversation and a comfortable space to explore the causes and conditions of these issues, feelings, and situations.

Jason’s approach to therapy includes many components of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), trauma therapy, and holisitic psychology. Clients learn how to grow healthier thoughts and thought patterns while relating more effectively to harmful habits by understanding how they originated, how they serve you, how they limit you, and how to work differently with the underlying cause. Informed by his own mindfulness practice, he also brings mindfulness exercises such as meditation and breath-work into sessions with clients to boost self-awareness and promote relaxation. He has extensive experience helping clients change their behavior, whether that’s away from an addictive substance, harmful thought patterns, rigid identification with thoughts or feelings, or toward healthier relationships and thought patterns.

Jason earned his Master’s degree from Lesley University and has a post-graduate certificate from the Institute for Meditation and Psychotherapy. His dedication to recognizing and utilizing each client’s unique strengths make sessions with him encouraging and empowering. His personal and professional understanding of the theory and practice of psychotherapy, mindfulness, and Buddhism helps cut through some of the noise surrounding meditation, its benefits, and its risks. He creates a safe, comfortable space for clients of all backgrounds and collaborates with clients on reaching their mental health goals based on their own values.

Message to clients

Hello, and thanks for reading about me and my practice.

Finding the space to work through things that trouble you is a big step that brings up complicated mix of feelings. I work to create and maintain a judgement-free space that affords you the opportunity to discuss the stressors, circumstances, and historical factors of your life and relationships in a way that brings about healing, develops insight, and helps you move toward a more deliberate and intentional way of being and relating to yourself and others.

A primary feature of my post-graduate learning and field work has been expanding my understanding of trauma-informed care, somatic (body) awareness, emotional regulation, and mindfulness meditation. My current area of focus in my clinical work is how a deeper understanding of Buddhist psychology and philosophy can teach us how and why to incorporate mindfulness and meditation in our daily lives, how to do so in a personal and meaningful way, and why you don't need to "be a Buddhist" to derive benefits from something as simple as informal mindfulness practices, and what the difference between formal and informal practice is and what it isn't.

Thank you again for reading my statement! Please feel free to reach out to connect. I'm happy to discuss how I think my approach can support you in your self-exploration
