I am accepting new clients.
Joel Rosow is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in NYC who specializes in treating relationship issues, anxiety and stress management, college student mental health, and life transitions. Together with the client we identify elements in each client's tool box for better daily life experience, and practice simple easy to use breathing techniques and mindfulness/meditation methods. Joel has extensive training in mediation methods and teaches other therapists meditation, and breathing techniques.
Joel takes a strengths-based approach and integrates easy to use problem solving methods along with awareness strengthening techniques for client well functioning. He also utilizes elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Gestalt, and Supportive Therapy.
He works with his clients to explore what new coping strategies they can employ to help manage their symptoms or alleviate some of the pressure they are feeling. This involves brainstorming possible strategies and applying problem solving methods between sessions.
He also focuses on helping individuals build self-esteem and move towards a place of self-acceptance and self-love. Clients learn how to deal with emotions that come up during a session, and Joel works with them in the present moment to better understand what is going on beneath the surface.
Joel ensures his clients’ feelings and experiences are validated and that they feel seen, heard, and supported. Prior to starting his private practice, Joel worked in the Counseling Department at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice for over a decade.
As an Interfaith Minister, for clients who express an interest, their faith and spiritual belief system can be incorporated into therapy for additional support . This is only used if the client shows an interest.
