Professional statement

Julie Remala-Hanley is a therapist located in California and currently offers online therapy. She works primarily with adult women and the issues that impact them. Many of Julie’s clients come in to address anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, and maternal mental health. She also has advanced training in the area of eating disorders.

Julie is trained in psychodynamic therapy, mindfulness, compassion-focused therapy, and CBT. In session, Julie focuses on examining the thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors that have helped clients make sense of the world and how they have impacted relationships with self and others. Julie also works with clients on breathing, grounding, orienting, and paying attention to the body's signals to help regulate uncomfortable emotions. This mind and body approach supports clients in modifying patterns that are causing them distress.

Julie's style is warm, authentic, and direct. When clients first start therapy, focus will be on creating a relationship where client and therapist both feel safe to show up as themselves. Julie strongly believes that the healing power of therapy lies in the connection.

Julie received two Masters degrees from Pepperdine University Graduate School of Education and Psychology. She has worked at all levels of care as a program therapist and clinical supervisor at Reasons Eating Disorder Center. Outside of private practice, she loves spending time going on adventures with her son and husband.

Message to clients

Life is hard. We are not born knowing how to regulate our feelings, communicate effectively, or set healthy boundaries. Sometimes we need some help to learn how to be in the world in a way that feels safe, empowered, and free.

I am passionate about helping women grow into more of themselves. Doing the work of healing can be scary business, but I believe that having a supportive and safe space to explore your inner life is the key to success. I strive to create an environment of acceptance, authenticity, and laughter. I will work hard to make sure you feel seen and heard, but also challenged. I love what I do and feel deeply honored to walk beside women on their journeys.

I'd love to hear from you! Please reach out if you'd like to chat and see if we're a good fit.
