Professional statement

Kachael Stocks is a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) in New York City (Lenape territory). She specializes in attachment, somatic awareness, premarital counselling, sexual identity, and race and cultural identity. The focus of her practice is in supporting people of color and individuals with marginalized identities as they navigate the impacts of social and environmental traumas and collaborating with them uncover their own wisdom (personal/familial/cultural) to future develop the resilience needed to withstand the oppressive systems that they live within. With individuals and relationships, she has expertise in helping clients break free of toxic patterns and finding more fulfilling ways of being with self and others.

Kachael uses evidence-based techniques in her practice, tailoring her approach to each client's concerns. Approaches include Family Systems, Narrative Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Gottman’s Couple’s Therapy methods, Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, as well as some concepts from Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Breathwork.

Kachael invites individuals, couples/polyamorous relationships, and families to work with her at her practice. Her goal is to help her clients better understand themselves and feel more confident in carving out their own personal path towards wellness in a safe, anti-oppressive environment.

All sessions are currently virtual.

Message to clients

You landing here on my profile was a big first step! Life can be tough, and though we are resilient, overtime, things can start to feel like too much. Your search for a therapist says to me that you are curious about how things could be different for you, your relationships, or your family if you could just get a little guidance. Feel free to follow that curiosity and see if this is the space for you.

In my practice, I will set aside space for you to think, to feel, to experience, to question, to explore, to cry, to laugh, to yell, to rest, all without judgment and with trust that in the end, we will uncover what is needed to make the changes you are seeking in your life. There will be no accusations of you being too broken or too resistant while at the same time providing support and accountability for the work that needs to be done. You will be trusted and respected as a whole human with thoughts, feelings, and experiences of their own that are valid and make sense in the contexts in which they occurred.

I won’t be a “fixer”. Rather, I will be a companion, and for most of time a guide, as we hike the treacherous landscapes that have left you feeling lost and hurt. If you are willing to make the trek through that wilderness together, my practice is the space for you.
